Holy moly! We go through SO MUCH laundry detergent. This baby of ours has reflux and spits up all day every day, uses cloth diapers, and did I mention that he spits up on all things all day LONG? Needless to say, WE DO LOADS OF LAUNDRY!
We are sort of laundry snobs around here. We can’t really help it, we are just sensitive people with sensitive people issues. I break out at the slightest mention of fake fragrance or additives. CAN’T EVEN HANDLE IT. Our little man is delicate because he has that beautiful sensitive baby skin.
Not sure if you have noticed lately but you can spend about 1 billion dollars a year just on laundry detergent. I am NOT lying. That stuff has gone way up in price. I mean… WOW. Since we are all about doing things naturally and on the cheap I went searching for a new and improved DIY Laundry Detergent.
IT MUST: be safe on cloth diapers, leave clothes feeling clean, smelling clean is a bonus
IT MUST NOT: cause rashes, require fabric softeners, cost a lot of money
So I scoured the web, pinterest and blogs and I came across a simple recipe that is working great for us so far. No rashes, no smelly diapers.. WIN WIN.
The recipe can be found over at Elisa Loves: Homemade Cloth Diaper & Laundry Detergent
Here is how I adapted the recipe to work for us:
DIY Laundry Detergent
2 cups Baking Soda
2 cups Super Washing Soda
20 drops purification essential oil
Add ingredients into a laundry friendly container, shake to mix it up, then add essential oils. Add 1 TBSP to a large load of laundry. I try to make this last as long as I can so I only use 1/2 TBSP for normal clothes and up it to 1 TBSP for the cloth diapers.
So far we are really digging this recipe! I hope you will like it too.
